Director General pledges ongoing support for Tunisian media

The EBU Director General has affirmed her organisation's continuing readiness to share knowledge and expertise with Tunisia as it seeks to develop its broadcasting sector.

Meeting the President of Tunisia’s National Constituent Assembly (NCA), Mustapha Ben Jaafar, on Friday (11 April), Ingrid Deltenre said the EBU would gladly play a part in promoting the national media landscape, particularly with regard to the 2014 general election.

Since the Arab Spring, the EBU has worked with its Member Tunisia TV and the Tunisian authorities and to help the nation’s broadcasters shed their mantle of state mouthpiece and become bona fide public service media.

In October 2012 the EBU and Tunisia TV deployed a broadcast network across Tunisia to ensure universal access to electoral news in all constituencies during the first democratic vote in the country, and the first in the wake of the Arab Spring.
