The EBU's Young Radio Reporters is teaming up with the European Handball Federation (EHF) to deliver exclusive audio material from their sporting events for the first time ever.
Karoline Zobernig, a 28-year-old freelance journalist with EBU's Austrian Member broadcaster ORF, will be embedded within the EHF Media Team the VELUX EHF FINAL 4 tournament in Cologne.
With the support of JJ Rowland, EHF Head of Media and Communications, and Thomas Schöneich, EHF Media Specialist, she will be guiding fans and bringing highlights to listeners through daily podcasts. She will also have behind-the-scenes access and provide player interviews.
The Young Radio Reporters programme was launched in November 2013 with the aim of giving rookie radio reporters access to big sporting events iand free range to explore new, multimedia approaches to covering the sport.
The programme has already successfully introduced a number of sporting events to younger audiences through radio and social media storytelling, such as the Biathlon World Cup events.
EBU Project Manager Christophe Pasquier said, "With journalism becoming more competitive everyday, it's important that young professionals get a chance to develop their skills out in the field.
Partnering with Europe's major sports federations just makes sense - it gives them a way to get in touch with new audiences through radio, and journalists get a chance to access some of the most exclusive sporting events in the world."
