Europe's finest vocal ensembles promise to make Europe Sings a night to remember for an expected live audience of 50,000 on the Rathausplatz, and for TV viewers across the continent.

Eurovision's newest live event coproduction is produced by host broadcaster ORF in Austria, and will be broadcast by 10 EBU member networks across Europe. For audiences elsewhere, the international feed will be streamed via the EBU website from 21:20 CET.

Taking place on 9 May in front of Vienna's spectacular town hall - officially the 'Day of Europe' - the concert will at once celebrate national folklore and songs from the 8 participating countries, while also transcending political - and musical - frontiers.

Bettina Brinkmann, Eurovision Head of TV said, "Europe Sings is a format that appeals to a wide audience. Musically and visually it is, of course, spectacular, but there's food for thought in there too. The fact that 10 EBU Members are involved shows us that there's an appetite for an exploration of European identity through her music."

Europe Sings forms the opening night of the annual Wiener Festwochen, on the city's Rathausplatz. Choirs from Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Latvia and Lithuania will sing music from their national canons, and join together to create a combined choir to perform excerpts by Mozart, Verdi and Mahler, closing with the European Anthem, Beethoven's setting of 'Ode to Joy'.
