Euroradio Eurosonic group met in Tangiers
27 October 2014
Following the trail of the Rolling Stones with…
…the Euroradio Eurosonic group.
Members met in Tangiers (Morocco) on 15-16 October at the kind invitation of SNRT (Morocco) and Radio France. The meeting took place during Les Nuits Sonores-Tanger Festival (http://nuits-sonores.com/tanger). It was the first time that the Group had reached these shores, and the two days became a great occasion for cultural and musical exchanges.
First, it was serious business as usual for the Eurosonic Group with the planning and preparations of the next Eurosonic Festival, which will take place on 14-17 January 2015 in Groningen. Euroradio will again be at the heart of the Festival with 24 EBU Members supporting 28 acts to perform in Holland.
The Group also discussed the launch of new collaborative projects, including "The Airwaves Takeover", a new concept whereby a 'league-division one' artist/band would be invited to "take over" the European airwaves for a day: the artist or band members would be invited to go behind the desks, create playlists, give an exclusive interview, perform an acoustic set, participate in a live online web chat, etc., all leading up to the grand finale, which would be a live concert broadcast and/or webcast.
Members of the Euroradio Eurosonic Group were also invited to contribute to panels during the "Lab". One of them was specifically about the support and promotion of emerging artists.
And then, being in Tangiers, these music producers followed the trails of icons such as the late guitarist of the Rolling Stones, Brian Jones, who spent lots of time in Tangiers in the Sixties, working with and producing an album of the Moroccan group, the Master Musicians of Joujouka.
Twenty years after Brian Jones' death, the Stones went back to Tangiers to record "Continental Drift", a tribute to the guitarist. The Eurosonic Group visited the house where part of the song was recorded: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHM37MFniKU
