EU Anniversary CD collection applauded by EBU radio community

A 4-CD box set featuring music from each of the 28 European Union Member States has been enthusiastically received by public service radio broadcasters across Europe.

‘Tune In – The Music of Europe’ was produced by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in collaboration with Polish Radio PR to mark the 10th anniversary of the 2004 enlargement of the European Union – the single biggest expansion since the 1992 Maastricht Treaty formally established the EU as successor to the European Communities.

The new joiners were the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.

Head of Euroradio  Christian Vogg says ‘Tune In’ offers an impressive selection of recordings by some of Europe’s best-known and celebrated artists on the current classical, folk, jazz and pop/rock scenes.

“After years of artificial division during the cold war, the European Union has reunited foes and friends,” said Mr Vogg. “This extraordinary assortment of music is symbolic of the cultural values that bind us.”

In their feedback, Members welcomed the chance to not only promote their own country’s music, but to also discover that of their EU neighbours. Others pointed to the opportunity to publicize the diversity of European culture, and the role of public radio broadcasters as producers of music and cultural programming.
