Eurovision, Alpine Canada partner to bring World Ski Championships live to Canadian audiences

Eurovision, operated by the EBU, and Alpine Canada have teamed up to increase the visibility of skiing to television audiences across Canada.

The new cooperation will deliver coverage of the Kitzbuehel Ski World Cup in Austria, as well as the 2015 Ski Alpine World Championships in Vail/Beaver Creek, USA, across the Sportsnet television network (Pacific, West, Ontario and East).

Canadian ski fans will be able to follow live action of the SuperG and the Hahnenkamm Downhill race from 23 January 2015, and the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships from 3 to 15 February.

Eurovision holds the worldwide media rights to the FIS World Cups in Austria as well as the FIS Alpine and Nordic World Championships 2015 and 2017.

It is also responsible for the marketing rights exploitation of the FIS Championships and will manage the host broadcasting operation for the upcoming 2015 Alpine Championships in Vail/Beaver Creek through its production arm Eurovision Production Coordination (EPC).

“We’re pleased to be partnering Eurovision to bring the most prestigious alpine ski races into the homes of Canadian sports fans,” says Mark Rubinstein, president and CEO of ACA. “In association with the Sportsnet television network, we’re excited to present Kitzbuehel and the Alpine World Championships to sports fans.”

“This latest collaboration project is another important step to increase the visibility of skiing in general, and in particular the Alpine World Championships and the crown jewel of Alpine racing in Kitzbuehel,” says Ingolfur Hannesson, Head of EBU Winter Sports. “The motivating factor for the EBU is to first consider the needs of the sport by using all means to create a ‘win-win’ situation. This is a perfect example of our approach.”
