EBU's sister union ASBU to take on state media reforms by 2016

The EBU's sister union, the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU), has approved the project to reform the union with the aim of better supporting the transformation of its members from state media to public service media organisations.
ASBU's executive board gathered in Tunis (30 January), under the chairmanship of ASBU Director General Abdel Rahim Suleiman and 1st Vice President Mohamed Abdulmohsen Al-Awash (Kuwait), to appoint a strategic advisory group to supervise the reform.
Former ASBU Director General Salah Eddine Maaoui will chair group, which will also include three other former ASBU presidents: Mohamed El Sheshtawy (Egypt), Habib Chawki Hamraoui (Algeria) and Riyadh Najm (Saudi Arabia).
The reform is scheduled to be completed within the first half of 2016. EBU will assist in this transition phase, providing expertise and support.
