Digital Radio: EBU presents Digital Toolkit at Radiodays Europe 2015
16 March 2015
The EBU is presenting its ground-breaking Digital Radio Toolkit at one of the largest and most influential gathering of radio industry professionals in the world.
EBU Media Director Annika Nyberg-Frankenhaeuser has guided an audience of senior executives, programme makers and technical experts at Radiodays Europe through the guidelines. 1,300 delegates from 60 countries attended at the event, held this year in Milan, Italy.
The toolkit is the result of a detailed investigation by researchers at the EBU’s Media Intelligence Service in Geneva. It identifies a range of key factors needed to allow for a successful roll-out of digital radio (DAB/DAB+), from legislation and funding to a strong information and marketing campaign.
The author of the report, EBU Senior Media Analyst Dr David Fernandez Quijada, says the toolkit is a developmental device that can help broadcasters through the transition to digital radio: “Navigating a path through the complex environment of regulation, funding and marketing associated with a DAB or DAB+ campaign can seem daunting. The value of the EBU toolkit is that it simplifies the process. We opted for an evidence-based approach and talked to those who have already embarked on the journey and identified a series of common factors that led to their success.”
“Pooling expertise and best-practice in constructive ways like this is one of our primary strengths at the EBU,” said Head of Radio Christian Vogg. “We can bring together knowledge and experience and make it available for the benefit of all our members. Czech Radio last week unveiled its strategy for going digital based on a similar list and I hope that with the exposure it will get at Radiodays Europe, the toolkit will be taken up even more widely.”
