Journalism Fellowship: EBU seeks 2015 Polis new media research fellow

Eurovision Media Online together with Polis, the journalism think tank of the London School of Economics and Political Science, are offering a prestigious online journalism research fellowship to journalists from EBU Member organizations – the third in as many years.  

The successful applicant will be given a month-long fellowship in London to produce a short piece of original research on an aspect of contemporary news media practice.

The theme must be related to online, mobile or social media with a particular focus on the impact changing media practices has had on editorial, ethical or political aspects of journalism. The findings will be shared with the EBU community.

Eurovision Media Online will submit a short-list of candidates to LSE Polis, whose decision will be final. The recipient will be notified by Friday 24 April.  

The candidate will be begin work at the LSE in October/November under the supervision of Polis Director Professor Charlie Beckett and will be given access to Media and Communications Department lectures, the LSE library, as well as Polis and LSE events.

Introductions will also be provided to news organizations, journalists, media researchers and LSE Media and Communications staff.

While in London, the research fellow will be invited to present a seminar on their research and contribute as a speaker to an EBU conference in 2015.

Previous fellowship winners

The first fellow, Nadja Hahn, ORF (Austria), produced a report about the impact of social media on journalism in Austria.

In 2014, Kamila Varadzinová spent a month in London researching the use of voting aid applications to add value to the coverage of elections.
