Euroradio: Czech Radio and Pilsen, joint European Capital of Culture 2015

As the sole radio partner for Pilsen's year as joint European Capital of Culture 2015, EBU Member Czech Radio is broadcasting a special programme of concerts with universal appeal from its own pop-up studio in the centre of the city in the Western Bohemia region of the Czech Republic. These broadcasts will be available to an international audience via a special Euroradio week, organised by the EBU.

The public service broadcaster has prepared a programme of live and recorded music events to portray the cultural wealth of Pilsen during its key year.

Highlights include live broadcasts of the Pilsen Philharmonic Festive Concert, a Jazz Season performance by Vertigo with Michael Bárta and a performance of the opera "The Bartered Bride" by composer Bedřich Smetana. The Belgian ensemble Musique Nouvelles is also coming to Pilsen as an envoy of the city of Mons, the partner European Capital of Culture 2015 and will perform "Pierrot Rewrite", a new joint work by 25 Belgian, French and Czech composers after Arnold Schoenberg's "Pierrot Lunaire".

The programmes on offer highlight different aspects of Pilsen's cultural heritage. They include musicians who got their start on the local music scene as well as the most successful music ensembles and artists.

"We are delighted to shine the spotlight on Pilsen in its year as European Capital of Culture," said EBU Head of Radio Christian Vogg. "The capacity to share experiences is part of the true value of radio and the EBU is the means by which events in Pilsen can be shared with the rest of Europe and the world."

"Czech Radio is the only radio broadcaster to become the media partner of Pilsen, the European Capital of Culture, 2015 " said Czech Radio's Director General Peter Duhan. "Part of this cooperation is not only providing regular information on what is going on in Pilsen, Czech Radio's concerts and events for the public, but also broadcasts and recordings of events which represent local music."

The eight concerts in the Pilsen series can be rebroadcast by any and all EBU Member organizations subscribing to the 2014-2015 Euroradio Season
