EBU creates an International Broadcasting Assembly
26 June 2015
EBU General Assembly delegates agreed today to create an International Broadcasting Assembly, which will integrate the already existing Bruges Group.
The EBU's Bruges Group was founded in 1991 in Belgium. In the past 20 years, it has expanded from its six founding broadcasters (BBC, Deutsche Welle, 3sat, RAI, RTPi and TV5) to more than 20 member stations from across Europe, including radio broadcasters and international partners.
The Bruges Group as a whole aims to provide its overseas audience with reliable, high-quality news and information from Europe. The aim is to promote European culture and values of democracy, freedom of the press and human rights throughout the world, strengthening the European identity through the broadcasting industry.
The group held its general assembly earlier this week in Bonn and elected its new executive committee, composed of 6 members with Mr Klaus Bergmann, International Relations Director at DW acting as Chairman, Ms Maria Jesus Perez Gomez (RTVE) and Ms Eszter Kantor-Riga (Duna TV) elected as Vice-Chairs.
This year’s meeting took place during the DW Global Media Forum. The meeting was an opportunity to network and share information on the world media markets. A special focus on Europe's Over The Top (OTT) market was provided thanks to the EBU's Media Intelligence Service.
The new International Broadcasting Assembly is open to all EBU Members with international broadcasting activities in TV, radio and/or online.
