The Gospel accounts of Jesus’ arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane, interrogation by Pontius Pilate and crucifixion are among the most dramatic events in the entire Bible. For centuries, countless composers have been inspired by these stories. On Sunday, 20 March, Euroradio offers its Members a Special Day of sacred music concerts devoted to the theme of the week before Easter.

Listeners will be able to choose from among such timeless classics as Bach’s oratorios (St Matthew and St John Passions) and Haydn’s stunning string quartet devoted to Jesus’ last words, or lesser-known fare like Good Friday lamentations by Elizabethan composers Tallis and Byrd, and even a contemporary Russian setting of the St Matthew Passion.

The concerts are available for live broadcast on the day or from M2M. The complete programme schedule can be found in MUS.
