First Master Class on e-Sport and gamification

The Eurovision Academy delivered its first Master Class on e-Sport and gamification in Berlin on 17 - 18 March 2016 in partnership with the Institute for Ludology at the Design Academy of Berlin.

With speakers from the German Trade Association of Interactive Entertainment Software, ESL Gaming Network, YouTube and the Engaginglab, participants had a unique opportunity to discover all the aspects of e-Sport and gaming. Topics included e-Sport and linear TV, gaming content for digital media, e-Sport events, the video game industry and gamification, human motivation and why we play.

All participants recognized the importance of gaming for PSM to reconnect with younger audiences. They also understood the key lessons for entering this field successfully: “Hire a recognized and knowledgeable host, such as a YouTube star”, “do not talk down to gamers”, “cover e-Sport like you would any other sports event”.

The 21 participants also had the opportunity to attend a LAN party kickoff, a game meeting where hundreds of gamers bring their computers and play in a network over the whole week-end. A small group of participants could even visit the production of the weekly League of Legends show, streamed on Twitch and YouTube.

Altogether, participants recognized the value of this Master Class to help them develop services in a new sector for PSM: e-Sport and gaming!

Eurovision Academy plans to organize a second Master Class on this subject. The exact date will be available soon. Check our calendar
