A new Public Council for Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) will help realise the public service remit of the broadcaster.
The Council was established on November 1st and will be chaired by Raina Konstantinova, the former Director of the EBU Radio Department. The nine members of the Council are all prominent public figures, renowned academics and experts in a variety of fields.
The Council will monitor the balance of different viewpoints, beliefs and interests at the broadcaster and ensure the avoidance of hate speech in programming. It will also contribute to the modern development and popularization of the Bulgarian language and culture in accordance with the national identity and European values.
Alexander Velev, Director General of BNR, welcomed the appointments and expressed his strong belief that the Council will play a major role in the ongoing reforms.
