Debunking the Crowding Out Myth

This report aims at debunking the long-lived myth that public service media (PSM) are somehow crowding out the competition in the media market. Based on a decade of research and statistical analyses, the report highlights the absence of evidence of any negative impact of PSM on the media market, nor of them crowding out the competition. On the contrary, it clearly emerged that PSM significantly contribute to wealthier media markets across Europe. Such contributions include driving quality, variety and innovation, as well as encouraging better programming and content quality.
