How broadcasters can make progress on diversity and inclusion in orchestral music - BBC Open Music Initiative
The BBC Open Music project brings together trainees from all music genres and styles and from a diversity of backgrounds, to collaborate and create a live orchestral music experience.
Over between 18 and 24 months, 30 trainees participated in training sessions and master classes, and enjoyed hands-on experience and mentoring to develop their skills and ideas. They worked with the BBC Concert Orchestra and BBC Proms to deliver a BBC Open Music concert at the Proms. This very public outcome and visible success was important to the project, both for the trainees and for the organization.
