Med Okar Augum: A prime-time programme made by people with disabilities
In 2010 Iceland’s public service broadcaster, RUV, answered a call to support a group of media students who all had two things in common: they all wanted to work in television, and they all had disabilities. It was a dream come true for the group. For EBU member RUV, the decision to take what appeared to be a risk led to one of the organization’s longest running and successful TV magazine programmes that has consistently enjoyed high ratings.
Med Okar Augum (Our Perspective) is a prime-time magazine programme made by people with disabilities, representing a genuine attempt to offer people with disabilities the opportunities they desire, to work in television.
The programme looks at everyday lifestyles and human-interest stories from the worlds of food, music, politics and sports through the lens of people with disabilities.
