Engaging young storytellers with VRT NXT Labs
The world young people live in is often inspiring, and it is from that world that Belgian public service broadcaster VRT seeks to recruit a new generation of storytellers and content-makers, with the aim of infusing renewed creativity and innovation into its work.
In trying to reach a younger demographic, VRT’s own internal research indicated that people from a younger age demographic – generation Z – were less likely to apply for jobs at VRT. The number of applicants from the same demographic was even lower when the analysis took a closer look at those with a migration background.1
VRT worked with academic institutions to understand what was happening and found universities faced a similar phenomenon, with dwindling uptake of media studies amongst people from these same demographics.
