In a fast-evolving music world, Public Service radio organizations remain essential players in the cultural landscape, contributing to the preservation, promotion, creation and accessibility of music, including the rich tapestry of operas – for audiences worldwide.
Focusing on contemporary opera, this report aims at uncovering the current status of opera appreciation and consumption, as well as the challenges and opportunities surrounding the broadcasting of operas.
The report is driven by three overarching goals:
1) understanding how contemporary opera is approached by PSM;
2) identifying the role of the EBU/MUS in this regard;
3) testing some assumptions in order to identify possible scenarios.
