Public broadcasters delivering the 2010 FIFA World Cup online

Geneva, 3 June 2010 – Building on the success of “Vancouver live”, the European Broadcasting Union* (EBU) and its Member broadcasters will deliver the 2010 FIFA World Cup live online through its sports video portal www.eurovisionsports.tv/fifaworldcup.

The portal will show full coverage of the 64 matches of the 2010 FIFA World Cup for European audiences**. Furthermore www.eurovisionsports.tv/fifaworldcup will be distributing 12 matches in higher definition (1280x720p) providing a compelling online viewing experience.

“The EBU and its Member broadcasters are committed to making innovative use of the new media rights. We will use our portal www.eurovisionsports.tv/fifaworldcupto distribute the entire 2010 FIFA World Cup including 12 matches in higher definition to millions of Europeans,”  said EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre.

Live streaming will start on Thursday 10 June, with the kick off celebration concert**** and will continue throughout the 31 days of competition.

The video portal aggregates 27 EBU Member broadcasters’ simulcast feeds and the EBU live feeds showing more than 2,200 hours of live event coverage. In addition the EBU will be delivering a match highlights channel.
