ABU President resigns

Yoshinori Imai has announced his resignation as Executive Vice President of NHK and President of the Asia-Pacific Broadasting Union (ABU).

In a letter to EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre, Mr Imai said he had been privileged to address important issues relating to broadcasting with colleagues from outside Japan.

In a reply, Ms Deltenre said  Mr Imai would be much missed by NHK, the ABU and by the EBU, of which NHK is the most prominent Associate Member.  Like the EBU DG, Mr Imai was a member of the high-level Broadband Commission organized under the aegis of the United Nations.

Datuk Ibrahim Yahaya, Vice President of the ABU and Director-General of RTM Malaysia, will serve as acting President of the ABU, the EBU's largest sister union, until the ABU's next General Assembly takes place in Delhi in November.
