Committees: News Assembly hands chair to Asun Gomez Bueno
02 November 2011
The EBU News Assembly has elected Asun Gomez Bueno (TVE) to the chairmanship of the News Committee, at its sixth meeting, which wraps up today (November 2) in Cascais, Portugal.
Ms Gomez Bueno (pictured right, with outgoing Chairman Hans Laroes) has worked at TVE for 22 years, and is director of TVE's rolling news channel, Canal 24 Horas. Since joining TVE she has worked alongside the Eurovision News Exchange, joining the Editorial Subcommittee before becoming its president in 2009.
After the election Ms Gomez Bueno said: "I will do my utmost for the benefit of the Members and to further strengthen the news community, as well as relations between Members and the EBU."
She added: "As director of a 24-hour news channel I know how indispensable the Eurovision News Exchange is for the News Programmes we all work for, but I realize that we have an opportunity, and an obligation, to make the News Exchange an even more central asset to the Members, by increasing efficiency, expanding the reach and the range of material available to us and working with each other to provide maximum benefit and value to all.
EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre thanked outgoing News Committee Chairman Hans Laroes (NOS), and Vice-chairman Steen Rabing Christensen (DR) for making "outstanding contributions to building the EBU News Committee". Both men also leave their respective organizations this year.
