Content and creativity: BAFTA launches online library and player
09 November 2011
The British Academy of Film & Television Arts has launched an online library and player, BAFTA Guru, which aims to give students and new starters access to expertise and inspiration as they embark on careers in the creative industries.
Targeted at 18-30 year olds, BAFTA Guru also features editorials and blogs, opening a door to leading minds in film, TV and video games.
BAFTA's Head of Learning and Events, Tim Hunter, said: "BAFTA Guru is an exciting new development for the Academy, where new talent from EBU Member organisations will find ideas, insights and inspiration which will help to promote creative excellence across a range of craft skills. BAFTA Guru allows an amazing roster of industry experts drawn from our membership and Awards to support the next generation of practitioners."
BAFTA Guru will be a continually-updated archive of interviews, lectures, master classes and debates. For example, the 'Life in Pictures' strand features interviews with accomplished actors, directors and writers from the world of film. Another strand, 'The Big Questions', is where stars describe how they made it in their chosen field.
From next year, aspiring content producers will be able to upload profiles and showreels for discussion, enabling BAFTA members, award winners and nominees to be directly involved in progressing people into a career in film, TV or games.
