Radio: Euroradio Contact Engineers Bureau Meeting at BBC
18 November 2011
Under its Chair, Wim Moortgat (BEVRT), and its Vice-Chairs Heinz-Peter Reykers (DEWDR) and Paul Popp (ROROR), the Bureau of Euroradio Contact Engineers met in London, at the kind invitation of the BBC, to decide on the development of the Euroradio network, which ensures the distribution, via satellite and Internet, of 4,000 concerts per year to some 50 Radio Members throughout the world.
The main items on the agenda were the following:
- completion of the new satellite network
- introduction of 5.1 satellite transmission capacity (surround sound)
- request to all Euroradio Members to install Euroradio satellite mobile transmission capacity, which could in future also be used for national broadcasts
- replacement of the current MusiPOP system, which allows the pushing of concert sound files via satellite to Members for deferred broadcast, by a new version using "bit torrent" transmission technology via the Internet
- finalization of a mobile phone application allowing simultaneous communication among all the various parties (transmission and reception) during the live transmission of a concert.
