The EBU pays tribute to frontline journalists on May 3, World Press Freedom Day 2011

Geneva, 2 May 2011 - The European Broadcasting Union will observe a minute’s silence on 3 May to remember the cost of journalism in human lives and honour journalists who have died bringing information to light.

EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre has this year called for a minute's silence to mark the sacrifices made by journalists in the name of press freedom, and to pay tribute to those who have been killed. So the EBU’s 370 staff worldwide will be asked to stop work briefly at 1200 CET to show their respect.

May 3 is World Press Freedom Day, when the United Nations invites humanity to stop and consider the dangers faced by members of the media, including imprisonment, torture, injury and even death for our right to know.
