Armenia (AMPTV) withdraws from 2012 Eurovision Song Contest

Geneva, 7 March, 2012 – Armenian Public Television announced it will not take part in this year's Eurovision Song Contest, which is to be hosted by Azerbaijani public broadcaster, Ictimai TV, in Baku on May 22-26. The news was communicated to the EBU today.

Ingrid Deltenre, EBU Director General, expressed the organization's regret:
"It's disappointing when any member drops out, especially at this stage of the competition. Excitement is building, and Armenia's contribution will be missed. We look forward to their participation in future."

42 countries will now be participating in the Song Contest. Eighteen countries will battle it out for a place in the two semi-finals, which will take place at the Baku Crystal Hall on May 22 and 24.  France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and host country Azerbaijan automatically qualify for the Final.
