Leading business executive Václav Mika has been elected director general of RTVS by the deputies of the National Council of the Slovak Republic.
Mr Mika, whose position was confirmed on August 1, replaces Zemkova Miloslava, who served as DG from February 2011 to June 2012.
Prior to his appointment, Mr Mika was director of the marketing and media company, Milestone Group Company and was formerly Chief Executive Officer and Statutory Representative of the TV station Markíza.
In 1999 Mr Mika founded the present radio market leader Radio Expres, where he held the posts of Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer. In 2004, he was elected President of the Association of Independent Radio and Television Stations and retained honorary membership until August 2012.
During his career, Mr. Mika has been recognised for his managerial skills, and has been awarded Top Manager of the Year in Slovakia on more than one occasion.
He was born in Trenčín in 1963 and studied at the University of Economics in Bratislava, Faculty of Economics and Management. He has professional certificates in the field of Management from the Bratislava Open University and the Institute for Management in Graz.
