The first of three Experts Groups, focused on issues faced by Public Service Media in the lead-up to 2020, gathered at the EBU's Geneva headquarters today to focus on their special area of knowledge – Content & Audience.

Two further Experts Groups will meet in Geneva and Brussels later this week to examine Distribution, Technologies & Audience and Governance, Funding, Role & Remit, respectively. 

The meetings are the first in a series of three organized by the Vision2020 project group led by Dutch-born Ruurd Bierman, who has chaired the EBU TV Committee since 2009, and has been a member of the Executive Board of the Netherlands Public Service Broadcasting corporation (NPO) since 2003.

Work on Vision2020 was initiated by the EBU Executive Board in July 2012 to help Members address the question: How do public service media remain indispensable to their audiences and stakeholders in 2020?  

Through the project, EBU Members are examining how PSM can adapt to changes in media consumption, the media value chain, the media market, demographics and government policies, in a way that best serves their audiences.

Preliminary results will be presented at the Trends Conference in Brussels on May 31.  The conference, aimed at EBU Members, executives, strategists and editors-in-chief, will also enable participants to exchange ideas and provide feedback on the project as a whole.
