Journalists from Croatian Radio Television (HRT) took part in the first EBU workshop to be held in Croatia since the country joined the European Union (EU) last July.

The seventh Public Service News workshop, organized through the EBU's Partnership Programme, examined public service media (PSM) values and best practices through hands-on exercises and discussions.

EBU Academy faculty member, Jonathan Stoneman, one of the trainers, said, "This workshop was conceived with future EU membership in mind, but it's no less relevant to new members like Croatia. Amid the wide-ranging changes being undertaken by HRT, the workshop is a reminder of the fundamental values which all EBU Members agree and aspire to".

The workshop was the last of an introductory series on on public service news carried out in eight different Southeastern European countries ((Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia, Vojvodina).

More than 90 editors and journalists benefitted from the training.

Next week, another wave of workshops will begin, starting with a course in Zagreb that will give participants the skills needed to train their colleagues in public service news production.
