International Association of Broadcasting elects new president

EBU's sister union, the International Association of Broadcasting (IAB), have unanimously elected Dr Alexandre Jobim as their new president. Members of the IAB, consisting of broadcasting delegates and experts from the three Americas, met in Rio de Janeiro for its General Assembly.
Dr. Alexandre Jobim, is a lawyer, Vice-President of the Brazilian media conglomerate Grupo RBS. He has also had an outstanding career, working different management positions at IAB, and has also chaired the the association's Standing Legal Committee for several years.
At the opening of the IAB Assembly, organised by the Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Stations (ABERT), he expressed his commitment to carrying on IAB's mission to defend freedom of expression through broadcasting.
Dr Jobim replaces former IAB President Alexandre Jobim Luis Pardo Sáinz, who recieved recognition for his contributions over three consecutive terms.
The Assembly´s opening ceremony was attended by Sergio Cabral, Governor of the State Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Bernardo Silva, Minister of Telecommunications, Luis Fernando de Souza Pezão, Vice-Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, Mayor of the City of Rio de Janeiro and João Roberto Marinho, Vice-President of Organizaciones Globo. It was chaired by Dr Daniel Pimentel Slaviero, President of ABERT.
EBU and IAB work closely together on a number of broadcasting issues, including spectrum policy, copyright treaties and promoting freedom of expression.
