New Eurovision documentary series 'BIG CITIES' seeks partners

Eurovision, the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) and Televisión América Latina (TAL) are looking for new partners to join their common project 'BIG CITIES', a documentary film series focusing on the discussion, comparison, exchange, and implementation of solutions to current problems occurring in the world’s largest cities.

ARD-SWR in Germany, NHK in Japan, RAI in Italy, UR in Sweden, TAL, along with their 10 Members and the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union plan to start the pre-production in May 2015 for final delivery in Autumn 2016.

The BIG CITIES project will cover a number of commonly agreed important urban issues and themes, culminating in a number of documentary prgrammes.

Central topics include mobility, housing and slum upgrading, safety, climate change, planning and design, economy, reconstruction, governance, human rights, water and sanitation, land, energy, legislation, gender, social and intercultural issues.

Each documentary will explore a specific story led by a character who creates an innovative solution for a specific problem the city is facing. These lead characters include architects and urbanists among other global influential professionals, but also ordinary groups of people, young and old, who have a particularly important project and idea relating to sustainable city life.

The choice of stories and the related editorial research and scriptwriting will be supervised by an international Editorial Board.

BIG CITIES will use a multimedia approach. The documentary films will be aired by partner broadcasters and made freely available on the web. The web platform will also offer extra materials to be used in educational contexts.
