EBU congratulates Radio Russia on its 25 anniversary

Radio Russia, part of EBU Member Russian Television & Radio Broadcasting Company (RTR) is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Established as part of RTR, Radio Russia is a nationwide 24-hour broadcaster and the only multi-format radio station in the country. It produces more than 170 different programmes on news and current affairs, music, literature, radio drama and documentary, education and talk shows, aimed at listeners of various ages and social groups.

The events surrounding the celebration started in the autumn, with Radio Russia’s producers and presenters going on the road and transmitting a number of programmes live from 18 cities all over Russia. Each week, one or two cities hosted a series of 3 to 5 special programmes to Radio Russia’s wide audience.

Since the outset, Radio Russia has been broadcasting its own radio dramas, and has enriched the drama content by launching the Stage Without Borders project, showcasing the best drama performances of various regional theatres in Russia and in neighbouring countries Armenia, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Moldova, and Ukraine.

The most significant and successful social project is the Children Matter, a weekly programme whose main goal is to draw the attention of society to the issue of abandoned children and orphans and help couples adopt children.

Radio Russia’s programmes have won a number of international radio prizes: Prix Europa Special Commendations (2004, 2007, 2014, 2015), Prix Italia (2013, 2015), Grand Prix Nova (2014, Silver and Bronze prizes in 2015), Prix Marulić (2012, 2013, 2015), Svetozár Stračina Grand Prix (2009, 2013 and Special Awards in 2011 and 2015). It regularly takes part in the Euroradio Folk Festivals, and hosted the 29th Festival in Moscow in 2008.
