Journalists sharpen skills for online news production

Public service media (PSM) journalists from 11 countries in Southeast Europe have gathered in the Serbian capital Belgrade to share best practice for online news production.

22 journalists exchanged ideas and brainstormed online strategies, looking at the use of social media, new news formats and virtual reality. They also discussed how to involve younger audiences, the relevance and quality of online news, and the possibilities for regional cooperation in this field. They experimented with Google tools, platforms and online videos, and undertook different practical exercises.

The workshop was organized by the Eurovision News Exchange Office for SE Europe (ERNO), in conjunction with the EBU Partnership Programme and Google News Lab.

“The workshop was designed to encourage news journalists to innovate, to experiment and to be inspired with examples of successful new formats and models”, says Radka Betcheva, Senior Manager at the EBU.

“We have to be modern, up to date and relevant to our audiences. Innovation is one of our core values. We must keep pace with current developments and continue to innovate to survive in the increasingly competitive media landscape.”
