Euroradio competition crowns best young jazz artists

Sisters of Invention, a duo put forward by Swedish Radio, took home the Grand Prize at the 2016 Euroradio Jazz Competition (EJC). The pair were awarded EUR 3,000 at last night's final (6 July), which took place at Amsterdam’s Bimhuis.
As part of the Grand Prize, Sisters of Invention were also given the opportunity to perform at the City of Rotterdam's North Sea Round Town event (8 July), prelude to the famous North Sea Jazz Festival.
In partnership with Dutch Public Radio/NPO Soul & Jazz and the Dutch EJC Foundation. the annual EJC is aimed at encouraging and promoting young jazz musicians and ensembles through broadcasts by EBU Members and by giving them the possibility to perform on stage at international festivals. The Grand Jury was made up of the following prestigious figures from the jazz world:
- Hugo Sekoranja, Chairman, Euroradio Jazz Group, and producer at RTV Slovenia
- Janne Lindval, jazz producer at Swedish Radio
- Wijnand Honig, editor and producer at NTR Dutch Radio and Television
- Erik Winkelmann, bass player in the Grammy Award-winning Metropole Orchestra
- Corrie van Binsbergen, guitarist, composer, band leader and Boy Edgar Prizewinner
The four finalist ensembles were:
- Kristina Barta Trio (Czech Republic)
- Félix Rossy & Marco Mezquida (Spain)
- Sisters of Invention (Sweden)
- Súp (Ireland)
Each competed during a half-hour public set, presented by Co de Kloet (NRT). These audio recordings are available to Euroradio Members in MUS under reference JM/16/07/01/01-04 for unlimited broadcast until 1 August 2017.
