Notable Absentee in the EU Research Agenda post-2020 and Why We Need it
10 September 2018To safeguard the key role media play in the economy and in society, we need to ensure its future sustainability and development in an increasingly global and competitive market place. Media innovation is central to this and covers multiple fields from creative content production to distribution and consumption. By investing in technological innovation and research, we have the opportunity to grow the already vibrant media sector and enrich European society.
Europe has a strong tradition of investing in innovation and R&D for media but the European media landscape is scattered and lacks coordination. At the same time, investment in technological innovation is dwarfed by that of powerful global players. If Europe as a whole does not invest more directly in media innovation in the forthcoming years, it will lose yet another economical and technological battle.
