On 12 November, kids around the world will join together in the largest simultaneous dance promoting friendship, inclusion and social kindness in children’s environments.
The #SayHi campaign was developed by EBU Members, NRK and VRT, to promote positive messages to kids. The EBU is launching the campaign internationally for the first time, with 13 countries on board.
NRK in Norway has produced a common song and dance choreography for the campaign and kids are encouraged to interpret the song in their own language for a large-scale real-time dance on 12 November at 12h CET. The dance will be covered in some format by participating broadcasters globally.
As well as 13 public broadcasters, the campaign is also supported by the Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) 2020, which is calling on the Eurovision family to join the dance. There will be an opportunity to see #SayHi content during the Opening Ceremony and on JESC social channels.
Madiana Asseraf-Jacob, Head of Business Development and Young Audiences, EBU, said, “In these worrying times of increased social restrictions and isolation, it is crucial that children feel supported and are also encouraged to support each other. The #SayHi campaign brings kids together and celebrates diversity, underlines the importance of inclusion; and focuses on the simple joy of friendship."
She added, “It’s appropriate that this is a public service media initiative, given the importance of the young audiences’ community to our industry. Giving kids an opportunity to take action and create a better society is fundamental to public media values of universality, diversity and citizenship, and is just one of many initiatives that the EBU is developing to foster international collaboration during these challenging times, because we are all stronger together.”
Hildri Gulliksen, Head of NRK Super, said “NRK is very excited to experience how the important and simple message - Say hi! - is now travelling all over Europe and Japan! Despite all the efforts parents and professionals do to prevent bullying and exclusion, we know that many children feel lonely and miss having friends. The aim of the campaign is to create a positive companionship that includes everyone and that reduces children’s feeling of loneliness.”
The broadcasters taking part are: VRT (Belgium); CR (Czech Republic); GPB (Georgia); KiKa/ ZDF (Germany); MTVA (Hungary); Rai (Italy); NHK (Japan); RTK (Kosovo); LRT (Lithuania); NRK (Norway); RTVSLO (Slovenia); RTVE (Spain) and ORF (Austria).
