5 diversity metrics captured in RTBF’s barometer
In 2019, Belgium’s French-language public service broadcaster, RTBF, introduced a Diversity Strategy formulated on three primary pillars: content creation, workforce and relationship-building with external expert bodies. The strategy is underpinned by a diversity barometer, a way of measuring and offering the organization business intelligence in the area of representation.
RTBF’s diversity barometer targets 5 categories of diversity: age, people with disabilities, ethnic origin, gender diversity and socio-professional spheres.
The measurement system works across the media organization, including its Digital, Radio and Television services.
RTBF configures the settings for diversity measurements, collates data across its programming schedule and workforce, and sends it to an external organization, which then crunches and analyses the numbers.
This system has enabled the organization to understand and zoom into areas with gaps and to formulate strategies to tackle underrepresentation wherever it is detected.
