Access services increasingly encompass more than simply traditional subtitling and audio description. Today, the question is how can we make sure that EBU Members’ online services and content are accessible to everyone? How can deaf and blind people be informed in the event of national, regional or local emergencies?
All this requires a broader view on what accessibility actually is. That is precisely our agenda for this year’s meeting. The topics that we are preparing will shine the spotlight on various facets of accessibility. There will of course be opportunities to network and share knowledge.
All participants are invited to attend pre-events on Sunday 8 October, the day preceding the EBU Access Services plenary meeting.
Sessions will focus on the following indicative themes, with contributions from VRT, BBC, NRK, ARD, RBB, DR, SVT, SWISS TEXT, ORF, SAMSUNG, ERICSSON, OFCOM and UAB (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona):
The EBU Access Services Experts Group brings together broadcast professionals from access services such as subtitling, signed programmes, audio description and audio subtitling which enable sensory handicapped people to access public broadcasters' content all over Europe. This group meets once a year to discuss important issues in access services. More information about the 2016 event can be found on ebu.ch: 2016 event page / 2016 news article
