Ukraine to host 2013 Junior Eurovision Song Contest

Ukrainian public broadcaster and EBU Member NTU is to host the 2013 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, in Kiev, this autumn.

Last year's Contest was won by 10-year-old Anastasiya Petryk, of Ukraine, with her song 'Nebo'.

However, unlike the Eurovision Song Contest, a win does not bring automatic hosting rights. Instead, hosting rights are bestowed by the EBU Steering Group according to a regulated bidding process.

Contest Executive Supervisor Vladislav Yakovlev said there had been keen interest from European broadcasters for the 2013 hosting right

"NTU's proposal stood out from those we received," he said. "Our previous experience with them in 2009 and their plans for this year's event make us confident of an excellent result."

NTU organized the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev in 2009 when Ralf Mackenback, representing the Netherlands, won with his song 'Click Clack'.

The contest, open to 10 to 15 year olds, promotes young talent in the popular music sector. The date of the Contest will be announced shortly.
