Hungarian public broadcaster welcomes new DG

Dr László Zsolt Szabó,
Director General of MTVA (MTVA)

The Media Support and Asset Management Fund (MTVA), an integrated entity of radio, television, news and new media within the Hungarian public service system, welcomes its new Director General, Dr László Zsolt Szabó. President of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) Dr Monika Karas recently announced the new appointment.

Dr Szabó, who was the Deputy Director General in charge of Production, Technology and IT at MTVA, took up his new position on 21 October.

The new Director General holds a doctorate in economics. After working in publishing, he began his career in public service media in the 1990s as Editor-in-Chief, then Vice President at Duna Television. Since then, he has worked for Hungarian Television, Antenna Hungaria and Echo Hungaria TV.

When the integration of the public media system took place in 2010, he became Deputy Director General of MTI Hungarian News Agency before joining MTVA in 2011.

He replaces Dr Istvan Böröcz, who has held the position since 2011 and has moved on to join the media authority NMHH as Director of Property Management, Strategy and Structural Development.
