This year’s Eurovision Science & Knowledge pitching session will take place on Wednesday 25 June within the framework of Sunny Side of the Doc (SSD) – the international factual market in La Rochelle, France.

The chance to move from the media laboratory into production will be offered to a selection of public service broadcasters (PSM) represented by the Eurovision Science & Knowledge Experts’ Group.

Chair Asta Dalman says the Group will be looking to recommend outstanding projects which are story-driven and also have international appeal.

“In 2013, SSD brought together more than 1500 producers and 300 commissioning editors, buyers, funding executives and distributors in search of pre-buy and coproduction deals,” Ms Dalman said. “This collaboration represents a unique opportunity for our Members to pitch what public service media do so well – to develop feasibility-based projects that combine originality with relevance in particular in those core public service areas such Knowledge and Science programmes.”

In total, 2000 documentary professionals representing 60 countries attended last year’s event, making Sunny Side one of the major international documentary and factual annual events.

Event CEO Yves Jeanneau said Sunny Side welcomes the involvement of such an important industry group as public service media.

“For 25 years we have been promoting international coproductions. By opening this session to decision makers from Europe and emerging territories like Asia, Latin America and South Africa, these projects are being offered an even greater potential to succeed.”

Submissions to the Eurovision Science & Knowledge Experts’ Group should be made by commissioning editors through an EBU Member broadcaster before 14 April 2014.
