The EBU’s Media Director Jean Philip de Tender has appeared on Al Jazeera Arabic’s talk show "Bela Hodod” (28 October), hosted by Egyptian journalist Ahmed Mansour. You can watch the full programme above.

The show was broadcast live from the Berlin Convention Center - the location of this year’s News Xchange conference - which is a Eurovision event.

Global Editor in Chief of AFP Phil Chetwynd was also a guest on the show.

Arabic for "without frontiers", Bela Hodod airs weekly on Al Jazeera across the Arab world and features politicians and senior thought leaders. This edition of the progamme focussed on the future of news.

Mr De Tender told the host that "If traditional media find a way to connect with today's audience, they will survive". He added that "quality journalism comes at a price - you have either public service media or ad streams or user pay."

He appeared on Bela Hodod after making a keynote address at News Xchange - the foremost gathering of news industry executives in Europe - which opens today.  His address was entitled “Slow is the New Fast” and called on journalists to take their time and explain the world better to their audiences.
