EBU Members launch Generation What Arabic

14 March 2018

The EBU’s “Generation What" project, which obtained the views of a million millennials across 14 European countries, has just been launched in 5 Middle Eastern and North African countries with a further 3 to follow.

“Generation What Arabic” is now online in Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia. Egypt, Libya, and the Palestinian territories will follow on 11 April.

18-34 year olds in the 8 countries are being asked to take a survey of 167 questions written with the help of sociologists, adapted to each country’s cultural and political context. This survey covers all relevant fields: millennials’ relationship to their family, society, work, adulthood, love, the future, national and cultural identity, and more.

EBU Members in the nations taking part will cast and interview young people from their country, to make videos for their local website. They will also promote the project on their channels for six months, through tailor-made shows, debates, and events.

Each participating country has its own website. The 8 websites can be reached from one single URL: arab.generation-what.org.

"Generation What Arabic" is financed by the European Union and implemented by the EBU in cooperation with the ASBU (Arab States Broadcasting Union) and the COPEAM (Permanent Conference of the Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators). The concept was developed by YAMI2 and Upian.
