Convergence is accelerating the media sector’s move towards an innovation-driven industry more than ever. Europe’s strong tradition of investing in innovation and R&D for media and broadcasting is undeniable. However, in spite of the media sector’s innovation capacity, investment in technological innovation today in Europe is dwarfed by powerful global players.

The European audiovisual and radio ecosystem is in a unique position: it reaches citizens directly with highly diverse and trusted content – entertainment, education, news, and drama – and it can unleash an enormous creative potential for innovative services. It is crucial to capitalize on this strength by crafting a European ecosystem for sustainable growth, developing creative and innovative media concepts and turning home-grown audiovisual and radio success stories into worldwide opportunities.
