European broadcasters call for anti-piracy treaty

European broadcasters call for anti-piracy treaty

On 13-17 March, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Member States discussed WIPO Broadcasting Organizations Treaty. European broadcasters, represented by the Association of Commercial Television and Video on Demand Services in Europe (ACT) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), welcome the continued commitment of WIPO Member States to finalize the WIPO Broadcasting Organizations Treaty.

The Treaty would harmonise the anti-piracy protections for broadcasters by setting minimum standards internationally. The Second Revised Draft Text for the WIPO Broadcasting Organizations Treaty (SCCR/43/3) is a balanced instrument aimed at protecting the programme-carrying signal. The revisions allow for a common understanding of the scope of protection and provide efficient tools to fight piracy, both on domestic and international levels.

European broadcasters remain committed to support WIPO with their expertise and assistance to reach this goal. Read our full joint statement to the right
