TVP to host 2019 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Gliwice-Silesia

The EBU and its Polish Member Telewizja Polska (TVP) are delighted to announce that Gliwice-Silesia will be the official Host City for the 2019 Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC).

Following Roksana Węgiel’s triumph for Poland at the 2018 contest in Minsk, TVP won the bid to host this year’s competition.

The 17th Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Arena Gliwice, one of the largest and most modern sports and entertainment venues in Poland, on Sunday 24 November.

Arena Gliwice boasts incredible facilities and has hosted a number of different events such as concerts, sport competitions, family shows, fairs, conferences and many more.

Gliwice, one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Silesia, was chosen by TVP after looking at a selection of cities and venues across the country. A cultural, historical and industrial hub, the recent investment into the area means it provides excellent transport links alongside beautiful architecture; mixing medieval and Art Nouveau with 21st Century innovation and modernism.

The historic region of Silesia is made up of two parts, Lower Silesia and Upper Silesia, located along the Oder River, the region is rich in natural resources and known for its wonderful culture, heritage and diversity.

Poland appeared in the inaugural Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 and has taken part in the competition a total of five times, returning in 2016 after an 11-year break.

The 2018 Junior Eurovision Song Contest was the biggest to date and featured 20 participating countries and a record-breaking number of votes. Following a tight race to the finish, Roksana Węgiel was declared the winner with Anyone I Want to Be, gaining a total of 215 points.

Jon Ola Sand, the EBU’s Head of Live Events said: “We are delighted to announce that Gliwice-Silesia, will be the Host City of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019. The show in Minsk was a spectacular event and we are in no doubt that TVP will put on an equally brilliant show; riding high on their win last year. As well as producing an unbeatable bid, it is extra special to have last year’s winning country host the event, and we believe that the TVP team will invest the same passion, dedication and fun into planning the event for this November.”
