On 30 November, 17 organizations, including from the media sector, journalist federations and more, have called on trilogue negotiators to ensure that the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA) is aligned with the international human rights standards when it comes to the protection of journalistic sources. Specifically, if EMFA Article 4 doesn't align with the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), it may fall short of its objective to offer greater protection to journalists and their sources.

The joint statement calls for policymakers to ensure a high level of journalistic protection in the final negotiations of the EMFA.
