Suspilne at Four Years of War: Resilience and trust

Four years into Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, our Member Suspilne continues to ensure access to trusted journalism at home while strengthening public service media coverage across Europe.

While serving audiences in Ukraine under extraordinarily difficult conditions, Suspilne has become an indispensable source of verified, on-the-ground reporting for public service media across the continent.

Contributions to the Eurovision News Exchange have grown significantly since the first year of the full-scale invasion. Compared to 2022, Suspilne’s output in 2025 has increased more than three and a half times — and compared to pre-invasion levels, the increase is more than tenfold. This remarkable growth reflects both the scale of events unfolding in Ukraine and Suspilne’s expanding role within the European public service media community.

In 2025, “Ukraine” was the most recurring keyword across News Exchange headlines. As defence and security became central themes in content exchanges, Suspilne’s reporting proved essential. Nearly two-thirds of the content contributed by Suspilne was republished by partner organisations across the network. Stories were translated into 13 languages and appeared on the platforms of all participating Members, reaching millions of readers across Europe, with particularly strong audiences in France and Germany.

Suspilne has also played an active and valued role in cross-border collaboration through A European Perspective. It contributed to four of the five collaborative reports produced this year and played an instrumental role in the major report on the lives of Ukrainian refugees across Europe — the most widely read collaborative project of the year. As partners increasingly publish stories natively on their own platforms, Suspilne has stood out as one of the earliest and most consistent contributors in this format, further expanding the reach of its journalism.

Beyond news exchange, Suspilne remains a highly respected member of the EBU Investigative Journalism Network. Its journalists have contributed to major cross-border investigations, including The Missing Children of Ukraine and Russification in Occupied Ukraine. Despite the challenges of reporting from a country at war, they have remained fully engaged in collaborative investigative work, strengthening both Ukrainian and European journalism.

The European Commission’s annual Progress Reports on Ukraine have consistently recognised the importance of media independence and the role of Suspilne in Ukraine’s democratic development. These acknowledgements underline the broader significance of Suspilne’s work — not only nationally, but within the wider European democratic framework.

The EBU expresses its sincere gratitude to our colleagues at Suspilne for their extraordinary hard work and unwavering commitment. Under the most difficult conditions of war — facing daily security risks, infrastructure damage, financial constraints and the immense strain placed on the Ukrainian people — Suspilne’s journalists and professionals have remained steadfast in their dedication to report, inform and serve the public.

Four years into the war, Suspilne continues to stand as Ukraine’s trusted public voice, demonstrating resilience, professionalism and an unshakable commitment to independent journalism.
