Olav Nyhus elected as EBU Legal and Public Affairs Assembly Chairman

NRK Legal Director Olav Nyhus is the new Chairman of the EBU Legal and Public Affairs Assembly (LPAA). He was unanimously elected today in Alcalá de Henares (Spain) at the 13th EBU LPAA.

Just before his election, Mr. Nyhus said: “I consider that the strongest public affairs and legal expertise on the media in the world is in this room. The question is how do we use our skills to achieve our goals. We do well; we can do even better. It will be a privilege for me if I can contribute to that.”

Mr. Nyhus will replace ZDF Legal Director Peter Weber, who stands down after 10 outstanding years in the position.

Peter Weber  said: “I look back with great pride with what the EBU legal and public affairs community has achieved over the past 10 years and beyond, in crucial regulatory areas such as copyright, media regulation, spectrum and net neutrality. I wish Olav the best of luck to pursue the important work of the EBU Legal and Public Affairs Assembly, and look forward to continue contributing to the work of the EBU Legal and Policy Committee.”

The LPAA also renewed the composition of the EBU Legal and Policy Committee (LPC), whose role is to promote and defend public service media in Europe and particularly vis-à-vis the European Union, as well as to establish and implement the EBU's European legal and public affairs strategy.

We welcome new LPC members Micol Rigo (Rai, Italy), Zakaria Hachlaf (SNRT, Morocco) and Kinga Zugh (HMG/MTVA, Hungary) and warmly thank outgoing members Helena Havlikova (CR, Czech Republic), Marit Ingves Bacia (YLE, Finland) and Elene Mikhailova (GPB, Georgia).
